It's Our Money

From Guilford County's own Register of Deeds Jeff Thigpen, who has hit his blogging stride in his new office, comes this link to Sojourners. They encourage you to send this letter to your Congressperson:

Dear [ Decision Maker ],

I write as a person of faith to urge you to consider the effects of President Bush's budget on people living in poverty.

The budget proposes cuts and detrimental changes to programs that benefit low-income people, while raising military spending and making permanent the tax cuts that benefit our richest citizens. When roughly 36 million people in the United States live below the poverty line, budget priorities like these are outrageous and run contrary to my moral values.

I urge you to consider what a Poverty Impact Statement about this budget would look like. A budget that serves the rich and hurts the poor is anti-family and anti-values.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
